Trinity Broad

The Trinity Broads lie on the north-eastern section of the Broads near Hemsby. Despite the name, the Trinity Broads area covers five broads: Ormesby, Rollesby, Ormesby Little, Lily and Filby.

The area directly managed by the Broads Authority is 36 sq km. It consists of 1.66 sq km of open water, surrounded by open fen and wet woodland. The area was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1998 and is now a part of the Broads Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

Rollesby Broad is not accessible by boat from the rest of the broads network but this makes it an extra special place to visit away from the rest of the Broads and hire boat industry. Only electric engines, rowing boats and sailing boats are permitted, and public launching of canoes is not allowed.

The Trinity Broads,  are home to many species of wildlife including otters, bitterns and marsh harriers. Tufted duck, shoveller, gadwall and pochard over winter there. When the water is clear shoals of fish and stands of thriving water plants can be seen.

You can enjoy the magnificent view over the Broad from our outdoor terrace or better still, enjoy a guided boat tour around the Broad on one of The Waterside’s tour boats.

If canoeing is your thing then how about taking to the water with The Canoe Man for a guided canoe trail. Because canoeing is silent and low in the water it is the perfect way to get close to the rare, and sometimes shy wildlife of the Broads.
