Green/sustainability
The Waterside is committed to working in a sustainable way. We are currently in the process of joining the Green Tourism Business Scheme which will see us undertaking many important actions to improve environmental and social performance.
We are working hard to ensure that as much waste as possible is recycled. Every effort is made to address the needs of the environment, culture, local residents, businesses and visitors, both now and in the future. We are always looking for ways to reduce pollution, emissions and waste, reduce the use of energy, water and other resources, and encourage environmental awareness amongst staff and our customers.
We constantly monitor our use of energy as this enables us to review our consumption
We use thermostatic controls for air conditioning, hot water and heating
All glass, cans, wood, cardboard, plastic and paper are recycled
We will shortly be installing low energy light bulbs
We are introducing a rainwater collection system
A large proportion of our cakes and desserts are made in our own kitchens or from approved local suppliers keeping the food miles to a minimum
We use herbs for many of our meals picked from our own gardens
The vast majority of our fridge and freezer equipment is A+ rated
All our toilets are dual flushing
We are compiling a total waste audit and green policy to determine opportunities for further improvements on waste management. Check this page again in spring 2012 as this is when we are hoping to have met the requirements of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and can give you more details of everything we are doing that’s ‘green’ and sustainable. Thanks for your interest!
